The Placerville Neighborhood Group was founded in January 2000 and officially received chapter charter in February 2003. By the end of 2002 there were 40 members and in 2003 they officially became a chapter within the national American Sewing Guild. 

The first community service projects were to sew pjs for the Sacramento Receiving Home and bibs for an orphanage in Guatemala. They responded to the September 11 attacks by making lap quilts for victims' families, partnering with Gold Country Moms Children, and organizing a Make A Difference Day event (96 quilts made and sent to Manhattan Salvation Army).

As of 2026, there are 121 members that participate in 8 neighborhood groups. The chapter hosts several special events during the year including 5 day retreat, a bus trip to a Reno Quilt show with a stop at a Reno fabric store, and two special 3 day sewing camps in the local area. They host several workshops partnering with local retail stores as well as leveraging the talent within the membership. 

The key feature in the chapter is all the support they give to each other and the community. They have a great deal of fun in doing so.
